When should you get adiagnostic ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a simple and safe way to check the condition of your internal organs and blood vessels.
• You have pain or discomfort in your abdomen, pelvis, or lower back
• You notice swelling, heaviness in your legs, or visible veins
• You need diagnostics or follow-up for gynecological, urological, or gastrointestinal conditions
• You need to check your thyroid, kidneys, liver, or other organs and systems
• For prevention and early detection of thrombosis: an ultrasound of the veins and arteries in the legs, as well as arteries in the neck, is recommended once a year for people over 45
• Vascular ultrasound is recommended before any planned surgery
Varicose Vein Treatment
Ultrasound diagnostics of the veins in the legs is a key step in detecting varicose disease and evaluating the condition of the venous system. Ultrasound allows the doctor to accurately determine the degree of vein dilation, areas with impaired blood flow, and valve function. This information is crucial for choosing the best treatment approach — from conservative therapy to minimally invasive procedures.

FAQ
Most types of ultrasound don’t require any preparation. However, for some exams there are a few important instructions.
For a kidney or pelvic ultrasound, you need to arrive with a full bladder. For an abdominal ultrasound, which is done on an empty stomach, you may need to follow a special diet beforehand.
There are no age restrictions. Ultrasound is safe for children of any age.
Even if you don’t have symptoms, it’s recommended to have preventive ultrasounds periodically. • Once every 2–3 years if you feel well — abdominal organs, kidneys, heart, thyroid, head and neck vessels, legs • Once a year for women — pelvic organs and breast ultrasound • Once a year for men — prostate ultrasound
Ultrasound is performed according to a standard protocol. However, certain factors can affect image quality — such as excess weight, anatomical features, or improper preparation for the exam.
It’s important to understand that the ultrasound specialist does not make the final diagnosis — they provide a report based on the imaging results. The final diagnosis and treatment plan are determined by your primary doctor.
